Home › Home health care (visiting nurses)

Home health care is medical care at home: nurses and therapists who visit, usually after a hospital stay or when a doctor orders it. It's different from the non-medical caregivers on the In-home care page. Medicare says it pays the full cost of covered home health services when you're homebound, a doctor or nurse practitioner has seen you in person and ordered it, and the agency is Medicare-certified. It doesn't cover round-the-clock care, or help with bathing and dressing when that's the only care you need. Your doctor or hospital should give you a list of agencies that serve your area, and you can look any agency up on Medicare's Care Compare site.

Before you hire anyone: check the license, get the price in writing, and please don't pay it all up front. My two-minute hiring guide walks you through it.
